 Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope everyone’s day is filled with some quality family time, lots of good food, and tons of Christmas movies. Undoubtably, one of my favorite Christmas smells is pine- and you better believe I have been diffusing it allllll day long.

About a year ago, I started getting into essential oils and studying the effects each individual oil has on your body. Before I started using them I thought it was all a huge placebo effect that could never actually work. That was until peppermint oil completely swept away an uncontrollable headache and lavender oil lulled me straight to sleep. Essential oils truly have a medicinal effect, and because of that I have taken less than 10 total pills in the past 12 months. Seriously they’re that good.

A few weeks ago, I found this baby Christmas tree shaped rosemary plant at Whole Foods and knew I had to buy it not only for it’s tastiness but for it’s soothing smell. Since then, I have begun to explore rosemary and all it has to offer. Not only does it taste and smell amazing, but it also has amazing nutritional and aromatherapy benefits.

Aromatherapy Benefits of Rosemary

  • Two types: Moroccan and Spanish Rosemary

  • Air-cleansing and have anti-bacterial properties

  • Moroccan Rosemary is known as the “herb of remembrance” because of its ability to powerfully stimulate the mind

  • Spanish Rosemary is high in camphor and soothes our tired bodies and enables us to keep going

  • Historically improves memory when diffused

  • Aids in hair growth when applied to the scalp

  • Assits in liver detox

  • Can assist in lowering cortisol

  • Mix 2 drops of rosemary oil with 2 drops of peppermint oil and 1 tsp of coconut oil to aid in sore muscles and joint pain

Nutritional Benefits of Rosemary

  • Source of dietary fiber, vitamin A, folate, manganese, iron, calcium, and magnesium

  • Rich in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties

  • Historically aids in memory, cognition, and focus

  • Improves blood circulation

  • Soothing to the stomach and GI system- can aid in indigestion

  • Natural breath-freshener (chew on a leaf or steep leaves in hot water for fresh breath!) plus it has added antibacterial properties that help kill bacteria in the mouth

Rosemary Roasted Sweet Potatoes

  • 3 medium-large sweet potatoes organic preferred
  • 2 tbsp organic olive oil
  • 1-2 tbsp rosemary fresh or dried, I prefer Simply Organic brand, if dried
  • Himalayan sea salt


  • Preheat oven to 400° F
  • Perforate sweet potatoes with a fork multiple times and place in microwave for 5-7 minutes to soften for easier cutting
  • Use a sharp knife and cut into small, bite-sized pieces. I prefer to keep the skin on for added fiber and nutrients! I cut the sweet potato into half-inch thick circles, and then cut each circle into fourths
  • Put cut up sweet potatoes into large mixing bowl and coat with olive oil, using hands to ensure thorough coating. Add rosemary and mix until fully distributed
  • Divide sweet potatoes between 2 cooking sheets coated with parchment paper. Try to avoid over-lapping in order to ensure thorough cooking and even browning. Sprinkle with coarse Himalayan sea salt
  • Roast on 400° for 45 mins, using spatula to turn and redistribute potatoes after 25 minutes
  • Remove from oven after 45 minutes, or until edges are slightly browned and potatoes are soft and crispy
